Elevate your body & perform next-level, circus-inspired moves

Build unbeatable strength & master gravity-defying aerial silks

Welcome to Aerial Silks

Build strength, grace & real aerial skills

Aerial silks — also known as aerial tissue — is a graceful performance art involving climbing and manipulating fabric suspended in the air — a full-body workout that builds strength, flexibility and control all at once. The Pole Room is your ultimate destination for alternative fitness, and our Silks program takes you from your very first climb to performing your own aerial routines.

What you will learn in our Silks Program

  • Perform twists, turns and spirals in the air
  • Move with fluidity and grace through sequences
  • Lock and hold aerial poses with control
  • Transition seamlessly between moves
  • Build conditioning specific to aerial artists
  • Explore elevated yoga positions on the silks

The program runs across three progressive levels — Silks Beginner, Silks Intermediate and Silks Advanced. You move up only when you and your instructor agree you have met the level's requirements.

Aerial Silks

Before you book

Everything you need to know

The Silks program runs across three progressive levels — Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced — each taught as a 8-week course.

You move up only when you and your instructor agree you are ready, so the progression always fits you.

New students start at Silks Beginner — no experience, strength or fitness required. Wear fitted leggings and a long-sleeve top that covers the backs of your knees and underarms. Avoid jewellery.

One class per week is enough to progress through the 8-week rotation. We also offer open practice sessions so you can drill skills between classes.

Studios are fully equipped with professional-grade aerial silks and safety mats — you do not need to bring anything but yourself. Qualified instructors are provided every session.

Every instructor is a highly skilled, qualified aerialist. Classes are capped so you receive genuine individual attention, and we progress wraps, climbs and drops only when your body is technically ready.

Don't just take our word for it

Real stories from real students

I had zero upper body strength when I started. Within twelve weeks I was doing drops I never thought possible. The instructors are so patient and genuinely celebrate every little win.

Sophie R.
Sophie R.Silks Beginner

Aerial silks is the most beautiful, challenging and rewarding thing I have ever done. The community here is everything... total beginners welcomed with open arms.

Priya M.
Priya M.Silks Intermediate

The 8-week structure is perfect. You have enough time to really embed the skills before grading. I came in with no circus background and I am now performing.

Frequently asked questions

Not at all. The Silks Beginner course is designed to build that strength from the ground up. Many students arrive unable to do a single pull-up and are performing climbs and drops within weeks.
Fitted leggings and a long-sleeve fitted top that covers your underarms and the backs of your knees. Skin contact on the fabric can cause friction burns, so covering up — especially early on — is important. Avoid jewellery.
Silks uses two lengths of suspended fabric instead of a rigid apparatus — which is why you will also hear it called aerial tissue, aerial fabric, or by its French name tissu aérien (often shortened to "tissu"). They all describe the same discipline. Because the fabric moves with you, silks rewards fluidity and whole-body coordination above raw strength — though you will build plenty of both.
Each level is a 8-week rotation. Progress depends on your consistency and personal development — you move up only when you and your instructor agree you have met the level's technical requirements.
Aerial Silks is available at our Mitcham, Narre Warren and Highett studios. Visit each studio page for timetable details.
