Aerials students, the moment you’ve been waiting for is finally here – Aerials SHINE 2025 Competition back, bigger and better than ever. This isn’t just any event; it’s our annual in-studio competition to showcase your talent, hard work, and passion on stage. Aerials SHINE is your opportunity to step into the spotlight, dazzle the judges, and show everyone what you’ve got. It’s a celebration of the incredible skill and dedication within our TPR community, and your chance to be a part of something truly spectacular.

Your Road to Aerials SHINE 2025 Competition: Key Dates

Applications Now Open!

It all starts here! Applications for Aerials SHINE 2025 from Wednesday 11 December. Whether you’re a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, in hoops, silks or trapeze –  this is your chance to register your interest. Enter your details, including your current level and chosen apparatus on this form.
Note: Only students with an active membership are able to apply.

Applications Close: Sunday 5 January, 2025

Don’t miss the deadline! Submit your application by Sunday 5 January to get in your expression of interest. There is no cost to apply. No Heats/Auditions will occur for this event; however students may be required to submit a short video of their routine and/or skills to determine that their chosen level is appropriate for the competition. Entries will be considered on a first come, first served basis.

Finalists Announced: Friday 10 January, 2025

The big reveal! On Friday 10 January, we’ll announce who’s moving on to the finals. If you make the cut, get ready to show the judges why you deserve to compete in Aerials SHINE 2025.
Note: Total divisions offered and split of division levels will be determined based on the number or entries.

Tickets On Sale: Monday 13 January, 2025

Showtime: Saturday 8 February, 2025

Finals Day! On Saturday 8 February all your hard work culminates in an epic night of performances. It’s the biggest event of the year for our aerials program on The Pole Room Calendar – get ready to shine stage.

Final Notes 
Definition of beginner/open will be determined based on number of entries and current level of TPR students at time of expression of interest. Video submission prior to finals may be required to demonstrate that students are entering the correct level. All Aerials SHINE 2025 applicants must hold a current TPR membership from time of form submission to competition date. Rules and Competition Guidelines will be released in the The TPR Tribe Facebook Group closer to the time, and tricks should only be performed from the current level and TPR syllabus. Students may be asked to move from the Beginner to Open Category at the discretion of TPR.

As you step onto the Lyra, your heart races with excitement and adrenaline. You begin to spin and flip, effortlessly executing each move with precision and grace.

The audience gasps in amazement as you soar high above the stage, your body seemingly weightless as you twist and turn in the air. The music swells, and you feel an incredible sense of freedom and joy as you continue to perform.As you reach the end of your routine, you land gracefully on the stage to thunderous applause. You take a bow, feeling proud and grateful for the hard work and dedication that brought you to this moment. You know that this is just the beginning of an incredible journey, and you can’t wait to see where your aerial lyra skills will take you next!

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST LYRA CLASS

During your first class, our expert instructors will introduce you to the basics of aerial hoop and help you build the strength and confidence needed to perform impressive tricks in the air. But that’s not all! You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and become part of a supportive and welcoming community that feels like a family. Whether you’re an experienced aerialist or a beginner, our instructors are passionate about helping you achieve your goals and providing a safe and encouraging environment where you can thrive. So come join us and discover the joy of flying high with Aerial Lyra. 

Here’s what to expect on your first day!

Safety briefing – Your instructor will explain how to use the equipment safely, including entering and exiting the hoop and gripping it properly.

Warm-up – You’ll warm up with stretches and exercises to prepare your body for the demands of lyra.

Learning basic moves – You’ll learn basic moves, such as mounting the hoop and basic poses, with step-by-step guidance from your instructor.

Building strength and confidence – Your instructor will help you build the strength and confidence you need to progress in your lyra practice.

Cool down and stretching – At the end of class, you’ll cool down and stretch to prevent soreness and promote flexibility.

FAQs

Do I have to be strong, flexible or fit for Lyra?
The simple answer is no. We don’t expect you to be strong, flexible or fit for this course – your strength, flexibility and fitness will improve as the course progresses. If you have any pre-existing injuries please contact us directly to find out if this will prevent you from participating. In most cases, our instructors will be able to modify tricks or combinations to cater to any limitations you might have.

Do I need any prior experience to join the Lyra program?
Our Lyra program is designed to cater to students of all levels, so you don’t need any prior experience to join. Our Beginner Level 1 & 2 classes are perfect for those who are new to aerial. We also have gradings by the end of term to asses if you’re ready to one level up.

What should I wear to my Lyra classes?
We recommend wearing form-fitting clothing that covers your legs and stomach. You can wear leggings or yoga pants, and a comfortable top that allows for movement. We also recommend wearing socks or bare feet.

How often should I attend Lyra classes?
We recommend attending classes at least 2-3 times per week to see progress in your skills. However, you can attend as often as you’d like depending on your schedule and goals.

Can I perform in showcases or competitions with the Lyra program?
Certainly! At The Pole Room, we provide numerous chances to showcase your skills and artistry on the aerial hoop throughout the year. Our renowned Glow competition and Shine Showcase are the most significant events that we organize. Additionally, if you prefer a more intimate setting, we also have performance nights at the end of each term for smaller audiences.

Is Lyra safe?
Safety is our top priority at The Pole Room. We have state-of-the-art equipment and experienced instructors who guide you through every step of your Lyra journey to ensure that you learn safely and progress at your own pace.
