We do allow filming in class as long as the camera is positioned in a way that you’re the only person in the frame. Please be courteous and aware that others may not want themselves on camera.
Recording and the use of your phone should only be done after the instructor has finished giving safety instructions and body cues. You may also at times be required to assist and spot your fellow students in difficult or complex moves. Please pay attention to your instructor and fellow classmates at all times. We do not allow the use of phones to text and call as a distraction may result in injury or misunderstanding of key points.

Absolutely! When joining you are not expected to have any prior fitness or dance background. Our job is to teach you and help you improve over the journey.
A good rule of thumb for Pole is the more skin you show, the more grip you’ll have on the pole.
Even as a beginner you will be using your thighs, knees, calves and ankles to hug the pole, so short shorts are a must for the best possible grip. For your upper body a short sleeved shirt or singlet is best. As you become more of an advanced poler and move through the levels, a sports bra or crop top will help to expose the skin on your elbows, underarms, back and midriff. To get the most from each session avoid using moisturiser / oils and remove all jewellery.
Dance classes (unless doing advanced choreography) and conditioning classes will rarely require you to grip onto the pole with your skin. Leggings, shorts, shirt, jumpers, whatever’s comfortable and easy for you to dance or move in. In class there’s a chance you’ll get hot and sweaty so bring a light change of clothes if needed. Check the class description below to see if knee pads and heels are required.
Hydration is important so always bring a water bottle! We have taps in the studios to refill.
Sweaty hands are the arch-nemesis of a pole dancer, bring along a hand towel and grip which can be purchased from studios! Knee pads are essential to have on hand. There’s a high chance you’ll get hot and sweaty in class so bring a light change of clothes if needed.
Heels are typically worn only in our Pole Dance or Floorwork classes. Check the class description to see if heels are recommended. In some cases students will opt not to wear them and that’s totally fine!
For our Pole program, you must be at least 16 years old and have parental consent if you are under the age of 18.
For our Lyra or Aerials program we do not have an age restriction, however if you are 14 or younger you will require a guardian to be present during the class.
If you’re committed to achieving maximum results and looking to become a pole or aerial superstar in the shortest amount of time possible ,then we recommend a minimum of three classes per week. This should comprise of at least one tricks based class, one conditioning class and one dance based class. Pole and aerial are skills-based and therefore require dedication and consistency, which is why we also have practice times available.
As a student of The Pole Room, there are some expectations that can contribute to a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Here’s what is generally expected of you:
Remember, everyone starts somewhere, and pole dancing is a journey of self-discovery and growth. The most important expectation is to enjoy the process and have fun while learning and challenging yourself. With dedication and passion, you’ll see yourself flourish as a pole dance student.
If you are considered high risk by your health practitioner, we recommend seeking advice before joining.
If you are an existing student at The Pole Room, you must notify your instructor as soon as you are aware you are pregnant.
If you are returning to pole after having a baby, speak to your instructor, but it’s advisable to train safely and return to a lower level class whilst you’re building your strength and re-conditioning your body.
Depending on the injury and how long you have sustained the injury, we may require approval from your doctor to confirm you are fit to participate in our classes.
Each studio location has its own schedule, instructor and unique vibe. If you’re on a membership at CBD, Mitcham or Kilsyth you can use your classes across all these company owned locations. If you’re a Highett member or purchased a package for Highett you are unable to move across studios.
Across all of our studios, multiples of each class are run at different times and days throughout the week. If you can’t make class on a particular night, check the timetable and you will find the same class at a different day or time giving you a second opportunity to book in that week.
Having trouble making your preferred classes each week? Speak directly to our staff about what’s best to do. We are open to taking requests as our timetable is dynamic and can change based on our members requests.
