Pole dancing for beginners at The Pole Room starts with an 8-week course: a small group, brass poles and instructors who love teaching first timers. Seven studios across Melbourne.
Next intake · Monday 19 October | Starts in …If you're looking for pole dancing for beginners classes, this is where it starts. Pole is a skill, and skills are built with repetition. That's why everything at The Pole Room starts with an 8-week course: the same night each week, the same small group and the same instructor, with each class building on the last.
We run 8-week courses for every apparatus and every level. You begin at Foundations and progress through Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced and Elite. Every course ends with the skills you need to move up to the next.

We are welcoming to all ages, backgrounds and demographics.

If you enjoy it, you'll keep coming back. Classes are social, the music is loud and nobody takes themselves too seriously.

Every class asks a little more of you. Spins, climbs and combos build strength you can see and feel.

The first time you do something you thought you couldn't, you'll understand why our students stay.
Your beginner pole course is where you build your skills. Around it, our casual classes let you dance, stretch, get stronger and try something new. Every class has a level so you always know where you fit.

Our studios are fitted with brass poles. Brass warms up with your skin and holds grip well, which makes it a comfortable surface to learn on.
Walking into your first beginner pole class is the hardest part. Here's what you can expect from us when you do.
You don't need a dance background, upper-body strength or flexibility to begin. Everyone starts from the same place, and the strength comes as you learn.
Most of our instructors started as beginners in these same courses. They remember week one, and nothing makes their night like your first spin.
Every body can pole. We celebrate what your body can do, not what it looks like, and you'll never be judged on shape, size or age.
Women, men and non-binary students all train with us. Our studios are proudly LGBTQIA+ inclusive, and your pronouns are respected from day one.
Our studios are safe spaces. We stand firmly against bullying, harassment and body-shaming, from anyone, in class or online.

Eight weeks of rehearsals, a themed group routine and a night on stage at The Round Theatre. Here is how a GLOW Performance Course works, what is included and who can join.
Every studio sets its own timetable and runs its own beginner pole dancing courses. Here's what each one runs, so you can pick the studio that has what you want to learn.
"After my first pole class I was hooked! Instead of counting calories, I counted the number of tricks and combinations I could perform."
The questions every first timer asks before their first beginner pole class. If yours isn't here, call your studio and ask.
No. Pole dancing for beginners starts from zero. Strength and flexibility are results of the course, not requirements for it. Our Foundations level is built for people who have never done a pull-up, can't touch their toes and haven't exercised in years. You'll be surprised how fast your body adapts when the workout is fun.
Everyone. Our beginner pole classes welcome all ages (16+), bodies, genders and backgrounds, including non-binary and LGBTQIA+ students. Most beginners have no dance or fitness background. Whether you want a new workout, a confidence boost or a creative outlet, an 8-week Foundations course is the place to start.
No heels for beginners, and no need for anything you don't feel comfortable in. Wear shorts that leave your thighs bare (skin is what grips the pole), a singlet or t-shirt, and bare feet. Heels and more fitted outfits come later, if and when you want them.
A water bottle, a small towel and an open mind. Skip moisturiser or oils on class day as they make the pole slippery. Grip aids are optional and available at every studio. We supply the poles, the music and the spotting.
Beginner courses run as 8-week intakes with small, capped groups, so places need to be booked in advance. Select your studio above to see the next intake date and reserve your spot. If you're unsure about committing, ask your studio about their intro offer.
Courses are non-refundable once started, but you can make up missed classes within the term at your studio. If life gets in the way before your intake begins, contact your studio as soon as possible and they'll help you transfer to the next intake. Full terms are on our Terms & Conditions page.
Call us on 1300 230 938, message your nearest studio on Instagram, or drop in and say hi. Our instructors love talking to first timers, and no question is too small.
