Courtney
About
Zookeeper by day and Lyra monkey by night, Courtney found the aerial fitness community on the whim of a ‘new year, new me’ resolution and a little fate. “I’d originally booked a Pole class but when I arrived at the studio it was full… there was a Lyra class running at the same time so I was encouraged to try it instead. This ultimately lead me to embracing and loving Lyra.” As an instructor, Courtney always invites her students to ‘choose their own adventure’. She wants everyone to find the forms, styles and tricks they love, which will ultimately express their own individuality. Focusing on the strength and confidence that comes from Lyra, her students at our Mitcham studio are often amazed at the spectacular things their bodies can achieve.

Music I love
I sing terribly, so I let dance do the talking. My taste in music is random and I often plot overly extravagant routines. In my classes, you won’t hear a lot of the same music, but you will hear me being the biggest dork in the room and celebrating EVERY achievement, big or small.

Gilly discovered pole dancing in 2011 and was addicted from her very first class. She loves that pole combines fitness, fun and creativity, and can result in a stronger and more flexible body. Having a background in callisthenics, Gilly has always loved the powerful expressions and emotions that can be conveyed through the art of dance. She is a passionate teacher and loves to guide and support students on their pole journey. To Gilly, watching students grow, achieve and become more confident is an amazing reward.

Music I love
I love any music that inspires movement, and that is what I aspire to motivate my students to do. This kind of music is definitely something you will often hear in my classes. I love everything from grunge to indie to classical music. My taste in music has always been very diverse and I believe there’s a little something for everyone in my classes.

KP
About
7-8
After overcoming the initial trepidation from her very first class, KP decided to make an example of herself and keep coming back. Through perseverance and determination, she blossomed, going on to win ‘Breakthrough Performance’ at the 2016 Victorian Aerial Awards for a routine dedicated to her late grandfather. KP is well known in the pole performance world for channelling her every emotion, with the poise and grace that even a swan would be envious of. Since joining the TPR team in October 2018, she will proudly say her favourite part of being a pole fitness instructor is seeing students smash their pole goals and just like her, realising that they are more capable than they thought.

Music I love
‘Flowy and moody’ is the best way to describe my style of music. Ed Sheeran and Lewis Capaldi immediately come to mind, but I’ll always have a place in my heart for the boys – yes, the Backstreet Boys. BSB 4EVA BBY!

Sian
About
8
Grew up on Phillip Island, Sian started pole in late 2017. A friend was going to classes and it looked like a fun alternative to gym and maybe a way to get out of her introvert shell. Sian is more a trick pony than a routine poler, but loves any excuse to dress up and have a boogie to anything exotic. She loves spending time with her partner Georgia, her dog and family. And in Sian's off the pole time she likes painting and playing video games. For a fun exotic dance or to smash your demon tricks, book a class with Sian today!

Thea
About
Looking for a confident, bird loving, flexy, rock goddess that is always down for a dance? We’ve got you covered! Thea started pole dancing many moons ago as a way to hang out with her girlfriends and do something a lil bit different.. As an instructor her favourites moments include watching her students perform her choreography on stage, whilst doing those flexy, strength moves they once thought were impossible. Working the day as an Engineer, Thea is the first to fix the loose doorhandles and leaky taps around the studio…. that is before she kicks into gear as a Pole Dance Queen in her high energy classes!

QUESTIONS
Getting Started
How many classes a week should I attend?
If you’re committed to achieving maximum results and looking to become a pole or aerial superstar in the shortest amount of time possible ,then we recommend a minimum of three classes per week. This should comprise of at least one tricks based class, one conditioning class and one dance based class. Pole and aerial are skills-based and therefore require dedication and consistency, which is why we also have practice times available.
What’s expected of me as a student?
As a student of The Pole Room, there are some expectations that can contribute to a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. Here’s what is generally expected of you:
- Positive Attitude: Come to each class with an open mind and a positive attitude. Embrace the learning process and be willing to try new things.
- Respect for the Instructor: Show respect to your pole dance instructor and follow their guidance during class. They are there to support and help you progress.
- Punctuality: Arrive on time for each class to ensure you don’t miss any warm-up or important instructions.
- Active Participation: Engage actively in the class, ask questions, and seek clarification if needed. Participate in class activities and practice the movements to the best of your ability.
- Consistency: Regular practice is essential for progress. Attend classes consistently and make an effort to practice what you’ve learned outside of class.
- Safety Awareness: Follow safety guidelines provided by the instructor. Be mindful of your limitations and avoid pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone without proper guidance.
- Supportive Community: Be a positive and supportive member of the pole dance community. Encourage and uplift your fellow students, fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
- Respect for Others: Show respect to other students and their space during class. Be mindful of their comfort levels and boundaries.
- Patience and Perseverance: Progress in pole dancing may take time, so be patient with yourself. Embrace the journey and celebrate every small achievement.
- Appropriate Attire: Wear suitable workout attire to ensure you can move freely and comfortably during class.
Remember, everyone starts somewhere, and pole dancing is a journey of self-discovery and growth. The most important expectation is to enjoy the process and have fun while learning and challenging yourself. With dedication and passion, you’ll see yourself flourish as a pole dance student.
I am pregnant/just had a baby, am I still able to participate?
If you are considered high risk by your health practitioner, we recommend seeking advice before joining.
If you are an existing student at The Pole Room, you must notify your instructor as soon as you are aware you are pregnant.
If you are returning to pole after having a baby, speak to your instructor, but it’s advisable to train safely and return to a lower level class whilst you’re building your strength and re-conditioning your body.
I have an injury, am I still able to participate?
Depending on the injury and how long you have sustained the injury, we may require approval from your doctor to confirm you are fit to participate in our classes.
Can I join classes at multiple studios?
Each studio location has its own schedule, instructor and unique vibe. If you’re on a membership at CBD, Mitcham or Kilsyth you can use your classes across all these company owned locations. If you’re a Highett member or purchased a package for Highett you are unable to move across studios.
I have a busy schedule. Is your program for me?
Across all of our studios, multiples of each class are run at different times and days throughout the week. If you can’t make class on a particular night, check the timetable and you will find the same class at a different day or time giving you a second opportunity to book in that week.
Having trouble making your preferred classes each week? Speak directly to our staff about what’s best to do. We are open to taking requests as our timetable is dynamic and can change based on our members requests.
I want specific results, what classes are best for me?
Not everyone has the same fitness ambitions. Thankfully the variety of classes offered give you the opportunity to focus on one or more types of outcome.
For Strength & Stamina: Try our Trick classes that will get your muscles working in overdrive!
For Flexibility: Try our Flexibility classes that will get your body primed for movement!
For Body Conditioning: Try our Dance classes that will get your heart rate up and body dripping in sweat!

Can I bring a friend to class?
Absolutely! Sometimes it’s even more fun when you brig a plus-one. If you do intend to bring a friend, however, do make sure you call up your studio and book them in so we can make sure there is space in the class.
Can I use my phone to film?
We do allow filming in class as long as the camera is positioned in a way that you’re the only person in the frame. Please be courteous and aware that others may not want themselves on camera.
Recording and the use of your phone should only be done after the instructor has finished giving safety instructions and body cues. You may also at times be required to assist and spot your fellow students in difficult or complex moves. Please pay attention to your instructor and fellow classmates at all times. We do not allow the use of phones to text and call as a distraction may result in injury or misunderstanding of key points.
Don’t forget to tag us on instagram @thepoleroom or use the hashtags #tprtribe #thepoleroom
I’m overweight, unfit and/or uncoordinated – can I still join?
Absolutely! When joining you are not expected to have any prior fitness or dance background. Our job is to teach you and help you improve over the journey.
What do I wear to my first pole class?
A good rule of thumb for Pole is the more skin you show, the more grip you’ll have on the pole.
Even as a beginner you will be using your thighs, knees, calves and ankles to hug the pole, so short shorts are a must for the best possible grip. For your upper body a short sleeved shirt or singlet is best. As you become more of an advanced poler and move through the levels, a sports bra or crop top will help to expose the skin on your elbows, underarms, back and midriff. To get the most from each session avoid using moisturiser / oils and remove all jewellery.
What to wear to my first dance or conditioning class?
Dance classes (unless doing advanced choreography) and conditioning classes will rarely require you to grip onto the pole with your skin. Leggings, shorts, shirt, jumpers, whatever’s comfortable and easy for you to dance or move in. In class there’s a chance you’ll get hot and sweaty so bring a light change of clothes if needed. Check the class description below to see if knee pads and heels are required.
What do I need to bring?
Hydration is important so always bring a water bottle! We have taps in the studios to refill.
Sweaty hands are the arch-nemesis of a pole dancer, bring along a hand towel and grip which can be purchased from studios! Knee pads are essential to have on hand. There’s a high chance you’ll get hot and sweaty in class so bring a light change of clothes if needed.
Do I have to wear heels?
Heels are typically worn only in our Pole Dance or Floorwork classes. Check the class description to see if heels are recommended. In some cases students will opt not to wear them and that’s totally fine!
Is there an age limit for classes?
For our Pole program, you must be at least 16 years old and have parental consent if you are under the age of 18.
For our Lyra or Aerials program we do not have an age restriction, however if you are 14 or younger you will require a guardian to be present during the class.
