Pole Dancing for Every Body: How Krystina Found Strength, Friendship and a Place to Belong Through Pole and Aerial
What if the biggest thing holding you back from trying pole dancing for every body wasn’t your strength, flexibility or fitness? What if it was simply the story you’ve been telling yourself?
For Krystina, one of The Pole Room Rowville students, that story began with a belief that she didn’t fit the image of someone who belonged in a pole class.
“I always felt like a big girl. You don’t really associate poling with big girls.”
She wasn’t worried about learning spins or climbing the pole. She was wondering whether she’d fit in.
It’s a feeling many people have before they walk into their first class.
Maybe you’ve told yourself you’re not fit enough, not coordinated enough, flexible enough or confident enough. Maybe you’ve imagined everyone else already knows what they’re doing while you’re the only beginner in the room. Those thoughts feel real.
Then you walk into your first class and realise something unexpected. Everyone was new once. Everyone is focused on their own journey. And instead of trying to prove yourself, you simply get to enjoy learning something new.
Looking for Something That Didn’t Feel Like Exercise
Like many people, Krystina said, “I tried the gym, didn’t really like the gym.”
She wanted something different. Something that challenged her, kept her engaged and gave her a reason to keep coming back.
When she booked her first class, she wasn’t chasing a fitness goal. She was simply open to trying something new.
What she found was a studio where beginners learned alongside beginners, experienced instructors guided every step, and nobody expected her to already be strong or know what she was doing. She simply had to show up and give it a go.
That one decision turned into something much bigger than she ever expected. Not because she has to be, but because she found something she genuinely loves.
“It’s my 10 year anniversary of starting pole and aerials.”
There Isn’t Just One Type of Person Who Belongs Here
One of the biggest surprises came after that first class. The picture she’d built in her mind simply wasn’t true.
“But everyone I know, they’re all different shapes and sizes, they’re all different personality types. So it’s a very accepting sport and I think that everyone should try it.”
That’s something we hear often at The Pole Room. Every week, people of all genders, ages, shapes, sizes, backgrounds and fitness levels walk through our doors. Some have never exercised before. Some have never danced. Others are looking for a fresh challenge after years of gym training or other sports.
You don’t need to arrive strong. You don’t need to arrive flexible. You don’t need to arrive confident.
You simply need to be willing to start.
Whether you’re joining pole dancing for every body or trying aerial silks for the first time, our instructors guide you through each step at a pace that feels right for you. Before long, the class that once felt intimidating starts to feel familiar, and you begin to notice yourself getting stronger, more capable and more confident.
Stronger in More Ways Than One
Over the years, she noticed herself becoming physically stronger and more capable. But the biggest change wasn’t measured by strength alone. Pole and aerial became part of how she looked after herself.
“When I go through these sort of like periods where I’m not at Pole or Aerials, I get a little bit depressed because this is like my physical outlet as well.”
As life became busier and she became a parent, that time became even more valuable.
“I’ve now got a six year old boy. Coming here is a bit of a mental outlet as well. I just get to be me with the people I love and I’m not sort of anyone’s manager.”
Many students tell us something similar. Class becomes more than exercise. It’s a chance to step away from work, family responsibilities and the constant demands of everyday life. For an hour, you get to focus on yourself, learn something new and enjoy moving your body alongside people who genuinely want to see you succeed. Erin found something similar when aerial silks became her outlet again.
The Community Makes All the Difference
Strength comes with practice. Skills improve over time. But ask our long-term students why they keep coming back, and the answer is rarely just about fitness.
Over the last decade, those weekly classes have turned into lifelong friendships.
“I guess the addicting thing about pole and aerial is the people. I’ve made like lifelong friendships out of the people here and not just the students but the teachers as well.”
That’s what makes The Pole Room different. People celebrate each other’s milestones, encourage one another through challenges and genuinely enjoy seeing each other succeed. It’s the kind of community that makes you look forward to coming back each week.
Maybe Your Story Starts Here
If you’ve ever thought you’re not the right body type, you’re too nervous, you’re not strong enough, you’re not flexible enough or you’ve left it too late, you’re not alone.
Many people walk into their first class carrying those same thoughts. The difference is they choose not to let those thoughts make the decision for them. Sarah found something just for herself when she took that same first step.
As Krystina discovered, one class can become ten years of strength, confidence, friendships and memories you never imagined possible.
“So it’s a very accepting sport and I think that everyone should try it.”
You don’t need to change yourself before you begin. You don’t need to lose weight, get stronger or become more flexible. You don’t need to feel confident before you book. You simply need to take the first step.
Whether you’re interested in pole dancing for every body or aerial silks classes, you’ll be welcomed into a supportive community where everybody belongs and every achievement is celebrated.
