How Jai and Julia Found Confidence, Strength and Their Tribe Through Pole
At times, the best experiences start with a simple decision. For Jai and Julia, trying pole classes with friends started with deciding to do something different together.
They weren’t looking for a complete lifestyle change. They weren’t trying to become the strongest or most flexible people in the room. They simply wanted to find something fun they could do together. Something that felt different from the usual gym routine. Something they could look forward to each week.
What Jai and Julia found at The Pole Room Rowville was something they never expected. They found a place where they could challenge themselves, learn new skills, laugh through the moments that felt difficult, and be surrounded by people who genuinely wanted to see them succeed.
Pole became more than just exercise. It became their weekly catch up, a way to build confidence, and a community they were excited to be part of.
Trying Pole Classes with Friends for the First Time
Walking into your first pole class can feel a little intimidating. Like many beginners, these two friends didn’t arrive feeling strong, flexible, or completely confident. They were learning something completely new and discovering what their bodies could do along the way.
Jai remembers how it felt at the beginning.
“I was very stiff when I first started.”
But that was part of the journey. Nobody expected them to walk in knowing what they were doing. Nobody expected them to get everything right straight away. They just needed to show up.
With every class, they became more comfortable. They learned new skills, built strength, and started surprising themselves with what they could achieve. Having each other there made taking that first step even easier.
“It’s just nice to have someone to come in with, and it’s also like our weekly catch up.”
What started as something fun to do together became a weekly ritual. A chance to move, laugh, challenge themselves, and spend quality time together.
A Community That Feels Different
One of the biggest things they noticed about The Pole Room was the feeling inside the studio.
“You can feel a community.”
They had experienced other fitness spaces where people would arrive, complete their workout, and leave without really connecting.
The Pole Room felt different. People talked to each other. Students cheered each other on. Everyone celebrated the little wins.
Whether someone was working towards their first spin, finally achieving a move they had been practising, or reaching a goal they had been working towards for weeks, every achievement mattered. There was no pressure to compare. Everyone was focused on their own progress.
“You’re used to everyone moving at different stages, so there’s never really a right or wrong thing here.”
That support is what keeps people coming back. Because everyone remembers what it felt like to start.
One Achievement at a Time
One of the most rewarding parts of pole is seeing yourself improve over time. A move that feels impossible during your first few classes can become something you feel proud of achieving months later.
“It doesn’t matter if it takes you two months to get your climb, you’ll get your climb.”
That mindset became a big part of their experience. Progress was never about being better than someone else.
It was about recognising their own growth. The first time holding a move they thought they couldn’t do. The first time noticing they were getting stronger. The moment they realised their bodies were capable of more than they imagined. Those moments build confidence that extends far beyond the studio.
Finding Your Own Style of Pole
Another thing Jai and Julia love about pole is that there is no single way to enjoy it. For some people, it’s about learning tricks, building strength, and challenging themselves physically. For others, it’s about dance, flexibility, movement, and finding a new way to express themselves.
“You can do tricks, but if tricks aren’t your thing or the strength element isn’t your thing, you’ve got dance and then you can do that as well. Flexibility, everything.”
That is what makes pole such a unique experience. You don’t have to fit a certain mould. You can explore what you enjoy, work towards your own goals, and create a journey that feels right for you.
More Than Just a Fitness Class
When Jai and Julia first started, they were simply looking for something fun to do together.
They didn’t realise they were about to find so much more. They found a place where they could try something outside their comfort zone. They found people who encouraged them through every challenge. They found confidence they didn’t know they had.
Because that’s what The Pole Room is all about. It’s not about being strong before you begin. It’s not about having perfect flexibility or experience. It’s about taking that first step, learning along the way, and discovering what you’re capable of.
Every confident poler started as a beginner.
Jai and Julia aren’t the only ones who found something unexpected through pole. Read how Ashita didn’t quit after one tough workout, how Erin made her aerial silks comeback after having a baby, or how Sarah found something just for herself.
