How Aerial Silks Helped Erin Make Her Comeback After Having a Baby
Sometimes the hardest part isn’t starting. It’s finding the courage to start again.
After becoming a mum, Erin found herself facing a challenge she never expected. Her pregnancy had been incredibly difficult. She spent much of it feeling unwell and largely confined to the couch.
By the time she was ready to exercise again, she felt like she was starting from the very beginning. Not just physically. Mentally and emotionally too.
Like many mums, Erin was learning to trust her body again. She was adjusting to all the changes that came with motherhood while trying to rediscover the confidence she once had.
The thought of returning to aerial silks felt exciting. It also felt intimidating.
What if she wasn’t strong enough anymore? What if she had forgotten everything? Despite those doubts, she walked back into the studio. Looking back now, she’s grateful she did.
One Class at a Time
When people think about aerial silks, they often picture beautiful climbs, graceful poses, and impressive tricks. What they don’t see is everything that happens before those moments.
The first attempt. The shaky climb. The little victories that nobody else notices.
For Erin, every class became another small step forward. Not because everything suddenly became easy, but because she kept showing up.
“I’m still learning my new body and trying to love the new body. But I’ve got more confidence. I feel stronger, I feel healthier and happier. Especially mentally, it’s really helped.”
Her confidence didn’t come from mastering a difficult trick. It came from discovering that her body was capable of more than she believed.
Every climb reminded her she was getting stronger. Every class reminded her she hadn’t lost herself. She was simply becoming someone new.
The People Who Helped Her Believe Again
Returning after a long break can feel lonely. Especially when you’re worried everyone else is further ahead. Erin quickly realised she wasn’t doing it alone.
One of the biggest reasons she kept coming back wasn’t just the aerial silks. It was the people waiting for her at The Pole Room Mitcham each week.
“My girls are from aerial, especially the silk girls. They drive me to be better. They are some of the strongest people you’ll meet. They’re determined, and they help push you.”
That’s what makes the TPR Tribe so special. You’ll meet people from every stage of life. Some are walking into their very first class. Others are returning after injury, pregnancy, or years away from exercise. Everyone remembers what it feels like to be the beginner.
There is no pressure to keep up. No judgement. Just encouragement.
Every cheer after a successful climb. Every high five after trying something new. Every reminder that progress looks different for everyone. Sometimes, having people believe in you helps you believe in yourself again.
You Don’t Need to Feel Ready
One of the biggest myths about aerial silks is that you need to be strong before you begin. You don’t.
Erin didn’t return because she suddenly felt confident. She returned because she decided she didn’t want fear making the decision for her. The strength came later. So did the confidence.
Class by class. Climb by climb. She learned to trust her body again.
If you’re waiting until you feel fitter, more flexible, or more confident, you might be waiting forever.
Sometimes confidence isn’t what gets you started. Sometimes it’s what you discover because you started.
More Than Exercise
Life can be overwhelming. Work gets stressful. Kids keep you busy. Some weeks feel heavier than others.
For Erin, aerial silks became something she looked forward to every week. Not just because of what she achieved on the silks, but because of how she felt afterwards.
“You can come here and you’ll be in the worst mood… and we’ll walk away laughing.”
That simple sentence says everything. Movement changes the way we feel. Learning new skills reminds us what we’re capable of. Being surrounded by people who genuinely want to see you succeed changes the way you see yourself.
That’s what The Pole Room has always been about. Not just building stronger bodies. Building stronger, happier, more confident women whose confidence extends into every part of life. It’s the ripple effect that begins inside the studio and continues long after class is over.
Erin’s Advice
If you’re waiting until you feel confident enough, don’t. If you’re worried you’ll be the only beginner, you won’t. If you’re wondering whether you’ll fit in, you probably will.
Erin puts it simply, “Just come and try it out.” Sometimes the best advice really is that simple.
Ready to Start Your Next Chapter?
At the beginning of her journey, Erin thought she was starting over. Today, she’d probably tell you something different.
She wasn’t starting over. She was starting a new chapter. One where she became stronger. One where she found confidence in a body she was learning to love again. One where she discovered a community that celebrated every milestone along the way.
If you’re standing where Erin once stood, wondering whether you’re strong enough, confident enough, or ready enough, you don’t need to have it all figured out.
You just need to take the first class. Your story might begin the same way. But where it takes you could surprise you.
